The Sand Canyon Surgical Centre in the United States has been recycling sterilisation wrap for over 10 years.
The doctors and nurses at the centre were frustrated at the amount of sterilisation wrap being landfilled. They decided to start recycling their clean wrap.
In addition to reducing landfill and recovering a valuable resource, the centre was surprised that it also had a financial benefit.
Recycling sterilisation wrap saved the centre US$5,880 each year. In Australian dollars and adjusted for inflation, that’s almost AU$10,000 a year!
“It’s not a big deal,” hospital worker George Sollars said, hoisting bags. “We just carry it over here on our way out this door. It’s one of the easiest jobs. And it’s for a really good cause.”
Here in Australia, WrapBack™ provides hospitals and health care facilities with a circular economy solution for sterilisation wrap.
