Circular Hub receives NSW EPA grant.
Circular Hub has been successful in securing funding from the NSW EPA to develop a blueprint to divert more soft/flexible plastic from landfill and keep it in the circular economy.
Hospitals send thousands of kilograms of sterilisation wrap to landfill every single year. Circular Hub developed the WrapBack™ program to help hospitals and healthcare facilities recycle their sterilisation wrap.
At the heart of the program is the WrapBack™ Blueprint, which provides hospitals with step by step instructions for setting up a recycling program for sterilisation wrap.
The WrapBack™ Blueprint has been the result of over years of trialling soft plastic programs, namely the Plastic Police® (link) program. WrapBack™ and Plastic Police® draw on over 35 years combined industry experience of the Circular Hub team, including 15 years’ experience delivering waste to resource circular economy solutions for Australian organisations.
The funding means Circular Hub has been able to develop and offer WrapBack™ program at a reduced price for hospitals to participate. The program collaborates with other stakeholders to ensure that together we are maximising the tonnages diverted from landfill in NSW. Circular Hub looks forward to working with hospitals and health care facilities in other states to rollout the WrapBack™ program.
How can hospitals recycle their sterilisation wrap?
The WrapBack™ Blueprint makes it easy for participating hospitals to set a recycling program for sterilisation wrap. Clear step by step instructions are provided to help answer your questions, such as:
• How much it will cost to recycle sterilisation wrap (and how much money could I save)?
• What equipment should I use?
• How do I minimise contamination (so that my recycling isn’t rejected)?
• How can I engage staff and get them excited about recycling? (Includes recommended internal practices for segregating in theatres and moving material to the loading dock for collection).
• How did I organise collections and what happens to my recycling?
As a WrapBack™ member, you will receive everything you need to review and implement sterilisation wrap recycling at your hospital or health care facility.
